The seven categories

Quantified Sales Performance

25 pts

Quota attainment, rankings, revenue, growth, awards, promotions, market-share gains and other measurable performance, stated with real numbers.

Why it matters: Pharma hiring managers look first for proof that you hit and exceed goals in a competitive territory.

How to show it: Lead with business outcomes such as quota attainment, growth, rankings and new wins, not just activity like call counts.

Territory & Account Management

20 pts

Territory ownership, account prioritization, segmentation, business planning, pipeline management, resource allocation and strategic account development.

Why it matters: Pharma reps own a geography and must decide which offices and accounts deserve their time.

How to show it: Describe how you prioritized or segmented accounts and what changed as a result.

Consultative & Stakeholder Selling

20 pts

Discovery, relationship development, complex selling across multiple decision makers, customer influence, objection handling and solution-based selling.

Why it matters: A single prescriber decision often involves physicians, nurses, office staff and pharmacy or access teams.

How to show it: Show deals where you influenced several decision makers, and explain your approach.

Competitive Selling & Behavior Change

10 pts

Displacing competitors, changing customer behavior, overcoming resistance, winning market share, or driving adoption of a different solution.

Why it matters: Most pharma selling means persuading clinicians to change an established habit or product choice.

How to show it: Include a specific competitive displacement, conversion or adoption you drove.

Clinical & Scientific Readiness

10 pts

Healthcare exposure, scientific education, clinical knowledge, ability to learn complex information fast and to communicate technical concepts.

Why it matters: You'll learn complex clinical information quickly. It's an accelerator, not a gate. Prior pharma experience is not required.

How to show it: Note any real healthcare exposure, science coursework, or technical products you mastered and explained.

Leadership & Credibility

5 pts

Promotions, awards, leadership responsibilities, training and mentoring others, special assignments and selection for high-performance programs.

Why it matters: Recognition and trusted responsibility signal you'll perform in a high-accountability role.

How to show it: List awards, performance-based promotions, mentoring or selection for special programs.

Structure, Clarity & ATS Readiness

10 pts

Resume organization, readability, bullet quality, keyword relevance, clarity and ATS compatibility.

Why it matters: Large pharma employers screen with applicant tracking systems before a person reads your resume.

How to show it: Use clear sections, concise results-first bullets and relevant terms that are backed by real accomplishments.

Our scoring principles

  • Prior pharma experience isn't required. Clinical readiness is just 10 of 100 points.
  • Business results count for more than activity or scope.
  • Industry buzzwords without real accomplishments don't raise your score.
  • Top scores require clear evidence, not polished wording.
  • We never invent experience, metrics or accomplishments.

Example: same facts, pharma framing

An illustration only. The rewrite reframes facts already on the resume. It adds no new numbers or experience.

Before (B2B software)

“Responsible for 60 mid-market accounts. Achieved 118% of annual quota. Replaced a competitor’s platform at 4 accounts.”

After (pharma-relevant)

“Delivered 118% of annual quota by prioritizing a 60-account territory, and converted 4 accounts from an entrenched competitor by persuading multiple decision makers to change established workflows.”
